Dr. Jianfeng Zhan is Full Professor and Deputy Director at Computer Systems Research Center, Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). His research work is driven by interesting problems. He enjoys building new systems, and collaborating with researchers with different background. He founded the BPOE workshop, focusing on big data benchmarks, performance optimization and emerging hardware.

Research highlights

Data center, big data, and cloud applications are emerging important workloads. Funded and supported by the 973 program, and several Industry funding from Huawei etc, we are proposing performance metrics, and developing benchmarks for big data ( BigDataBench ), data centers ( DCBench ), and cloud computer systems ( CloudRank ), which we name ICTBench and release on http://prof.ict.ac.cn/ICTBench with an open-source license.

We are investigating innovative OS architecture, mechanisms, and system supports for scale-out data center workloads. We believe heterogeneous system architecture will play an important role in improving performance and energy efficiency of data center computer systems. We are building an innovative operating system RainForest, which is compatible with Linux ABI, for one of world-class major players in communication and computers industries.

We believe how to automate understanding Internet web pages is a key issue in evolving future Internet applications. We are building a prototype system, named ProfSearch, which provides a service for searching professionals according to the extracted meaning from massive web pages.

We feel great interests and engage in proposing approaches and developing performance analysis tools for large-scale scientific computing and datacenter, and cloud computing.

We built three innovative cluster and cloud systems software: Phoenix, DawningCloud, and PhoenixCloud. Among them, GridView (one component of Phoenix Cluster operating system) was transferred to Sugon, which is a premier supercomputing company in China, and becomes its popular software product.
